What Does the World Think? - Obama or Romney?

By Mini Swamy, TMCnet Contributor

America is on the verge of another presidential election, where the scales have tilted as the candidates conducted their campaigns. Who will win is anybody's guess. However, apart from the American voter preferences, what is the worldwide political opinion like? If you want to know, just ask Jana.

Jana, a Boston-based mobile startup, which helps global brands engage directly with people via mobile phones, conducted a survey and released the results of its 2012 Presidential election survey in emerging growth markets.

The company leveraged its research platform to learn more about how people felt toward the two United States Presidential candidates in other markets. Jana members voiced their preferences on the upcoming United States election.

Mobile phone users in nine markets that covered countries other than the United States voiced their political opinions, which might bring a smile on Barack Obama's face.

A majority of the respondents stated that they would vote for Obama, while 12 percent would vote for Mitt Romney. Obama's international diplomacy and relations with other countries had a lot to do with this and India, Indonesia, and Nigeria believed that was a big factor.

In Kenya too, Obama had a lot of support for a different reason; it was noted that he had better business sense and understanding of economics than Romney. Although Romney lost to Obama, he fared best in Pakistan, losing by just three percentage points.

Trustworthiness was the strongest indicator of candidate preference among all respondents. Bill Clinton, Hilary Clinton and George W. Bush emerged as top three favorite past U.D. leaders.

Jana rewards consumers with mobile airtime in exchange for taking market research surveys and trying out new products.
